ImageTweak 0.19: proper drag&drop

A few months and a complete change of location (I’m in Helsinki right now!) later, ImageTweak is going to reach version 0.19.

I had to scrape all the work I already did for 0.19 because I hit a few roadblocks, and so I had to start over with a minor but longstanding bug: proper drag&drop support. What it means is that you won’t have to hold CTRL anymore when performing drag&drop. The price is that I had to drop support for firefox 2.x and 3.0.x.

I just added it on AMO. As soon as it gets reviewed it will be available for download.

p.s. I also enabled donations on AMO, so if you feel like it please support the development of ImageTweak.

  1. I like this new drag&drop feature but it messes with the mouse pointer icon a bit. When moving the image around, the pointer used to show a “move” cursor (horizontal and vertical arrows), but now it shows the “can’t drag-drop” cursor (black circle with strike through it) and will occasionally flash the “move” cursor.
This is quite annoying and could be misleading if the user thought the “can’t drag-drop” cursor meant that they can’t move the image.
I suggest that you keep the “move” cursor when moving the image and only change to a drag-drop cursor when the mouse has moved outside of the image window.

  2. I’m aware of the issue. Unfortunately I don’t really know how to fix it, because Firefox overrides whatever pointer I set. I’m trying to get in touch with the mozilla developers but it takes time.
    Thank you for your concern.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply.
I suspected that it might have been Firefox overriding the cursor. The way the cursor flickers made me think that something else is trying to set it to something at (almost) the same time that you are.
I thought it could maybe be overcome by enabling drag-drop only when the mouse is dragged outside the image window but obviously you would know more about it than me.
I hope you find a way to solve this problem.

  4. Hey again.
You know, the more i think about it, the less i like the idea of drag-drop on the image window. Dragging the mouse can only really have one action at a time, it’s either move the image or drag it to copy. You are trying to do both. I think you should maybe go back to ctrl + drag and leave regular drag from moving only.
I know i am being picky, but i really like this add-on and i am only trying to help.

  5. For next version I will either make it an opt-in feature or fix it. I don’t know when it will happen though, I’m quite busy right now *sigh*.

Ok, great! You could just have an option to say whether drag-drop should happen on mouse-move or with ctrl+mouse move.
